ich habe diese Diskussion sporadisch verfolgt und möchte doch noch etwas dazu sagen.
Es besteht ja Einigkeit darüber, dass die challenge nicht optimal gelaufen ist. Die Hintergründe sind hier besprochen, die jeweiligen Standpunkte/Schwerpunkte dargelegt. Auch die neuralgischen Punkte, wenn es um unterschiedliche subjektive Wahrnehmungen geht.
Arolsen hat erklärt, sich entschuldigt, zeigt sich bewegungsbereit, zeigt auch Grenzen auf (des Machbaren oder in Bezug auf die ENC Zielsetzung).
Ihr habt euch auf diese Diskussion eingelassen und eure „Komfortzone“ dabei sicherlich ein Stück weit verlassen. - All das weiß ich zu schätzen, danke.
Danke auch an alle anderen! Für eure Diskussionsbeiträge hier und eure freundlichen Worte.
Ich hatte überhaupt keine bestimmten Erwartungen nach meinem ersten post hier und war dann ziemlich überrascht (auch berührt….)
Zum Stellenwert von challenges:
Zugewinn für die Datenlage im Archiv vs. breite Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema?
Ich persönlich sehe das mittlerweile (mit etwas zeitlichem Abstand) gelassener und würde heute das eine nicht über das Andere stellen wollen.
Beide Standpunkte sind legitim in ihrem gemeinsamen Ziel: Jedes Dokument, jedes Schicksal eine Mahnung für „Nie wieder“
(Wie @t-m oben treffend anmerkte: Wir sind ja freiwillig hier, ich setze also auch meinen persönlichen Schwerpunkt – oder klappe ggfs. den Laptop zu)
Zur Übersichtlichkeit im Forum:
Mein absoluter Frusttag war der challenge Sonntag: Eine Handvoll Freiwilliger bemüht sich stundenlang, mit den Fragen im Forum zurechtzukommen. (Dass Arolsen diesen Sonntag auch nicht auf dem Sofa verbracht hat, wusste da ja noch niemand!) Viele Fragen wurden immer wieder gestellt, weil sie (angehängt an Dokumente) mitsamt den Antworten in den Tiefen des Forums einfach verschwunden waren. (hier ein kleiner Einblick)
Nun sieht es so aus, als gäbe es ein wenig Bewegung.
Dieser Arolsen Ansatz geht in eine gute Richtung (mho) und lässt sich bei Bedarf sicher weiter ausbauen.
Die jeweiligen Anliegen der user sind schon mal sichtbar. (Der o.g. genannte Sonntag wäre damit vermutlich weniger chaotisch verlaufen.)
Transparenz , Offenheit, Kommunikation:
Auch hier wird sich zeigen, ob den guten Absichten Taten folgen (oder zumindest Schritte in sinnvolle Richtungen)

I’ve been following this discussion sporadically and would like to say a few more words.
There is an agreement that the challenge didn’t go optimally.
Circumstances and reasons have been discussed here, as well as different points of view / emphases .
Also the neuralgic points when it comes to different subjective perceptions.
Arolsen has explained, apologized, shown willingness to move, and also pointed out their limits (of what is feasible or in relation to ENC objectives). You have engaged in this discussion and certainly left your „comfort zone“ to some degree. - I appreciate all this. thank you.

I had absolutely no expectations after my first post here and was quite surprised (and touched…).
Importance of ENC challenges:
Gain for the data situation in the archive vs. a broader public discussion and awareness?
Personally, I’m more relaxed about this now (with some time passed) and wouldn’t want to prioritize one over the other today. Both viewpoints are legitimate in their common goal: Every document, every fate a warning for „Never again.“
(As t-m aptly noted above : We are here voluntarily. So I also set my own personal priorities – or close my laptop if necessary.)
Clarity in the forum:
It looks like there’s a bit of movement.
My absolutely frustrating day was Challenge Sunday: A handful of volunteers spent hours trying to somehow deal with the questions in the forum. (No one knew at the time that Arolsen hadn’t spent that Sunday on the couch either!) Many questions were asked repeatedly. Attached to documents, they had simply disappeared, along with the answers, into the depths of the forum. (example here)
This Arolsen approach is a step in the right direction (in my opinion) and can certainly be expanded further if necessary. Users’ respective concerns are directly visible. (The aforementioned Sunday would probably have been less chaotic.)
Transparency, openness, communication:
This, too, will show whether good intentions are followed by actions - or at least steps in a meaningful direction. -

ich freue mich, dass du noch da bist! Zumindest sporadisch.
Und ja, ich bin froh, dass ich nicht entscheiden muss ob „Masse oder Klasse“ wichtiger ist für dieses Projekt.
Dein Copy und Paste gefällt mir! Genau sowas habe ich vermisst. (ich denke, das ist jetzt aber auch angekommen). Und ja, so emotionale Motivation braucht es in Freiwilligenprojekten.
Das ist aber bei diesem Thema extrem schwierig sowas sensibel zu machen und ich hätte auch keine Idee dafür wie. (in einem anderen Projekt gab es eine Urkunde zum selber ausdrucken bei xy „Leistung“.)
Ich glaube, die Motivation hier kann nicht durch solche Meilensteine erreicht werden - aber definitiv zb damals dein herzliches Willkommen an mich und die Unterstützung durch die Community als ich hier Frischling war. (und klar, Mareike hatte mcih auch willkommen geheißen).
Ich denke, Motivation ist wirklich hier nur über Kommunikation möglich - zu sehen, dass der Balken der zu bearbeitenden Karten kleiner wird…

And yes, I’m glad I don’t have to decide whether “mass or class” is more important for this project.
I like your copy and paste! That’s exactly what I’ve been missing. (but I think that has now also sunk in). And yes, such emotional motivation is needed in volunteer projects.
But it’s extremely difficult to do this sensitively and I have no idea how to do it. (in another project there was a certificate to print out yourself for xy “achievement”).
I don’t think the motivation here can be achieved through such milestones - but definitely e.g. your warm welcome to me and the support from the community when I was a newbie here. (and of course, Mareike welcomed me too).
I think motivation is really only possible here through communication - seeing that the bar of cards to be edited is getting smaller…

Hallo @ewei, du hast natürlich Recht mit deiner Anmerkung über die Art (und Wortwahl …) bei der Kommunikation auf ENC.
Meine letzten Sätze waren nicht wirklich ernst gemeint, und ich habe sie gelöscht, damit es hier nicht zu [weiteren] Missverständnissen kommt.

„Communication is key“. Ein kurzer, festgepinnter Post mit der Info, dass Ihr damals einfach nicht nachkommen konntet, hätte einiges an Verärgerung garnicht erst aufkommen lassen. Andererseits wäre es dann vermutlich auch (noch) nicht zu der Übersichtlichkeits-Verbesserung gekommen. Das ist doch ein schönes Ergebnis aus einer nicht ganz schönen Situation.

‘Communication is key’. A short, pinned post with the information that you were simply unable to comply at the time would have prevented annoyance from arising in the first place. On the other hand, without that it would probably not (yet) have led to the improvement in in the forum. That’s quite a good result from a not so good situation.

Schön, dich hier zu sehen. Freut mich natürlich zu hören, dass du hier ab und zu noch vorbeischaust und unsere späte Antwort auch noch bis zu dir vorgedrungen ist.
Danke auch noch mal für deine Einordnung zu teils unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und Standpunkten. Bei einem Projekt, an dem so viele verschiedene Menschen teilhaben, entstehen natürlich auch jeweils unterschiedliche Schwerpunkte und Ansprüche.
Das Szenario des Challenge-Sonntags illustriert definitiv nochmals, dass wir das für die Zukunft auf dem Schirm haben müssen.
Freut mich auch, dass auch du die Änderungen positiv einschätzt.
Dein damaliger Versuch, die Antworten zu bündeln, war natürlich genau richtig, und wir hoffen, dass auch das schon mal besser sichtbar wird, wenn jetzt die Betreffszeilen direkter einen Einblick geben und die Fragen besser in ein und derselben Unterkategorie gebündelt sind.
Freut mich jedenfalls, dass du vorbeigeschaut hast.
Ich bin übrigens jetzt erstmal den April über nicht da, aber meine Kolleginnen und Kollegen werden natürlich auch weiter im Forum präsent sein.

Nice to see you here. I’m naturally pleased to hear that you still stop by occasionally and that our late response has still reached you.
Thank you again for your assessment regarding the sometimes different perspectives and viewpoints. In a project with so many different people participating, various priorities and requirements naturally emerge.
The Challenge Sunday scenario definitely illustrates once more that we need to keep this on our radar for the future.
I’m also glad that you view the changes positively.
Your previous attempt to bundle the answers was absolutely correct, and we hope that this will become more visible now that the subject lines provide more direct insight and questions are better bundled in the same subcategory.
In any case, I’m glad you stopped by.
By the way, I won’t be around for the month of April, but my colleagues will of course continue to be present in the forum.

nachdem auch ich nicht mehr daran geglaubt habe, dass sich hier noch was tut, bin ich nun umso positiver überrascht. Erstens konnte ich mich eben problemlos einloggen, und zweitens freue ich mich, dass Du, Marc, und das Team sich unsere Kritik offenbar zu Herzen genommen und Änderungen in die Wege geleitet haben. Dafür ein großes Dankeschön, das schafft heutzutage nicht jede/r. Ob diese Änderungen ausreichen, das Forum und das ganze tool benutzerfreundlicher zu machen, bleibt abzuwarten. Da ich im Moment kaum Zeit übrig habe, werde ich auch in der nächsten Zeit hier nicht viel mitarbeiten können, vielleicht steige ich später im Jahr wieder ein.
Für meinen Teil steht aber das Angebot, dass Ihr uns gern konsultieren könnt, bevor Ihr einen neuen Workflow einstellt, ich bin mir sicher, dass dadurch ein Chaos wie im Februar leicht zu vermeiden wäre. Und nachdem ich eben 145 Meldungen von Marc abgearbeitet habe (inzwischen weiß ich auch, warum es soviele waren), hoffe ich, dass mir größere Technikprobleme zukünftig erspart bleiben.

after I too no longer believed that anything would happen here, I am now all the more pleasantly surprised. Firstly, I’ve just been able to log in without any problems, and secondly, I’m delighted that you, Marc, and the team have obviously taken our criticism to heart and initiated changes. A big thank you for that, not everyone can do that these days. It remains to be seen whether these changes will be enough to make the forum and the whole tool more user-friendly. As I don’t have much time to spare at the moment, I won’t be able to do much work here in the near future either, maybe I’ll come back later in the year.
For my part, however, you are welcome to consult us before setting up a new workflow, as I am sure that this would easily avoid the chaos of February. And after working through 145 messages from Marc (I now know why there were so many), I hope that I will be spared major technical problems in future.

Toll auch von dir wieder zu lesen, @moewenzahn.
Ohje, habt ihr jetzt wirklich alle so viele Benachrichtigungen bekommen. Das ist natürlich auch nervig. Du weißt ja jetzt schon, dass das mit der Migration aller Beiträge in jeweils eine klar zuzuordnende Kategorie lag. Sollte jetzt erstmal nicht mehr passieren, bis wir vielleicht auch noch die älteren Beiträge neugruppieren.
Aber erstmal freuen wir uns natürlich auch, dich hier wieder zu sehen. Wir hoffen auch, dass die Änderungen schon dazu beitragen, dass der Austausch hier im Forum für euch zumindest nicht erschwert wird. Gebt sonst gern durch, was doch nicht so funktioniert wie gedacht. Wir können wie gesagt auch zukünftig nicht versprechen, immer kurzfristig eine Lösung anbieten zu können, aber manches findet sich ja dann doch.
Auch schön zu lesen, dass das Einloggen zumindest spontan wieder problemlos funktioniert, hoffentlich bleibt’s dabei. Sonst gib gern nochmals Bescheid, auch wenn das für uns kompliziert werden könnte.
Danke auch für dein Angebot, wir werden erstmal die Dinge weiterentwickeln, die wir uns vorgenommen haben.

Oh dear, did you all really receive so many notifications? That’s certainly annoying. You already know now that this was due to the migration of all posts into clearly assignable categories. This shouldn’t happen again for now, until we possibly regroup the older posts as well.
But first of all, we’re naturally pleased to see you here again. We also hope that the changes are already helping to ensure that the exchange here in the forum is at least not made more difficult for you. Otherwise, please let us know what isn’t working as intended. As mentioned, we can’t promise to always be able to offer a quick solution in the future, but sometimes one does emerge.
It’s also nice to read that logging in is at least spontaneously working smoothly again; hopefully it stays that way. Otherwise, please let us know again, even if it could become complicated for us.
