Question
Please, what do you read as first commando’s name on the backside of the card:
Ulla? Mla? Wla?..
It is the 2nd time I see a smilar name and even with the detailed biography of this survivor at hand I am not really sure of what I should read. Thank you…

I read „Ulla“, but no idea yet about the kommando or the meaning…

edit: You yourself have got it above!! :slightly_smiling_face:

(i had only found „Ulla“, a village about 15 km from Buchenwald…)

1 „Gefällt mir“

Thank you routebleue, nearby village makes perfect sense!
I wasn’t first really sure of the handwritting and couldn’t find „Ulla“ in subcamp list so I transcribed as I thought right but asked for other ideas…
I simply didn’t think of checking among neighbourhood’s towns.

The village „Ulla“ is also just an idea. Ulla could also be a code name, like „Dora“ or „Reh.“
Only recently I read an article stating that even today, not all commando code names have been „decrypted.“
The Nazis often used words or phrases in other contexts too, known only to „insiders“. There’s probably still a lot to unravel.

P.S.
His name is also mentioned on zooniverse ENC
