Luigi („Gigi“) SCALA (20.07.1905 - 21.07.1945)
He was a professor of natural sciences in Turin and an anti-fascist activist,
member of the clandestine organization “Giustizia e Libertà”,
writer of the newspaper „Voci d’officina“,
arrested by the fascist police, sentenced to eight years in prison on April 24, 1932,
released after almost 4 years,
arrested again in 1937 for raising funds to support Republican Spain, imprisoned in Castelfranco Emilia,
released in August 1943,
politically active again as a member of „Partito d’Azione“,
arrested again, interned in Mauthausen.
He survived and returned to Turin in the summer of 1945.
Only a few days later he died, weakened by the imprisonment.
