I’m currently researching my grandfather’s history and hoping to find any records related to his time during World War II. He was a soldier, but we have very little information about his service. My family has always been curious about where he was stationed and any details about his experiences.
I recently came across the Arolsen Archives and learned that they have an extensive collection of documents related to war victims, displaced persons, and forced laborers. However, I’m not sure how to begin my search. Can anyone guide me on the best way to navigate the archives?
I’m trying to trace my grandfather’s WWII records using the Arolsen Archives but need help navigating the database. Has anyone successfully found military records there? Also, while researching, I came across the term generative AI. What is generative AI, and could it assist in historical research like this?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
Best regards,
Hello william,
I do hope the team from Arolsen can help you with your request. This forum is about the project „every name counts“ where people try to document papers into an internet databank eg. from prisoners of the Nazis (KZ). So I personally have no idea how to find one person in those datasets. I just try to help with typing cards (scanned already) into a computer form.
But I link your search to the team from Arolsen (but please keep in Mind, that both Mareike and Marc wrote a few hours ago that they are not available at present (maybe on holiday? I dont know). So it might take a while until you get an answer.
I read from other people who are searching for their realatives and write here in this forum, so maybe someone in this community does know how to help you. Maybe you can also look for a contact information at the Arolsen Webpage?
