Questionnaire regarding the experiences of David Schachtel during the Holocaust (yadvashem.org)
Deportation to the Lodz Ghetto with his entire family, 1940; death of his father in the ghetto; deportation to Auschwitz with his mother and his sister, 1942; death of his mother in Auschwitz; death of his sister after the liberation of Bergen Belsen; transfer of David to the Kaufbeuren camp, Dachau, a camp in Augsburg, the Burgau camp, the Tuerkheim camp and finally to the Allach camp for forced labor; liberation from Allach by the US Army.
Remains in a hospital in Allach; move to the Munich-Funkkaserne DP camp; move to Poland, move to the Bergen Belsen DP camp; move to the Foehrenwald DP camp, October 1945.
