Herman Emile Frenkel, his parents and two sisters were part of the Barneveld group. The Barneveld group was a group of prominent Jews who were exempted from Arbeitseinsatz and deportation by the Germans. They were housed in castle ‚De Schaffelaar‘ and villa ‚De Biezen‘ in Barneveld. However, on September 29,1943 the Barneveld group was deported to te Dutch internment camp Westerbork. In September 1944 the Frenkel family was deported from Westerbork to Theresienstadt. They all survived.
