Ernst BAUMANN, born 25.10.1893 in Danzig.
He was married to Edith KATZKI/KATZKION (* 01.01.1901) They had one son.
The Nazis confiscated the family’s store in Gumbinnen in 1938, along with most of their possessions.
During the Night of Broken Glass (Kristallnacht) in November 1938, the SS and the Gestapo arrested Ernst Baumann at 3:00 a.m., accusing him of setting the synagogue on fire, and took him to the Gestapo headquarters where he was imprisoned for six weeks.
After his release in 1939 he fled with his family to Shanghai, China, where they remained until the end of the Second World War. In 1948 the family emigrated to the United States.
Ernst Baumann died in San Francisco in 1951.
