?
in relative’s POR I sometimes find [„Kr.“ ? / „Kv.“ ? + number] behind the house number.
I suppose it is a number of the flat/apartment/floor in that building.
Any ideas about the meaning of this abbreviation and about the correct spelling (Kr. or Kv.) ?
Hi,
probably, as you already guessed, this is the number of the apartment. „Kv.“ could come from the word „kwartira“. This is actually a Russian word (квартира), but we don’t know the native language of the prisoner clerk.
Best,
Annabell
Sounds good, that might be it!
Thanks and a nice (foggy…) day!
As a neighbour country to Russia (Finland) we also used historically a very similar word to mean „a place to sleep“.
