A life of 80 years. This is the life of Charles Pieters, born on Christmas Eve 1914.
I knew him at Buchenwald under the name under which he was arrested and deported, that of Eugène Houssaye, born on 7 March 1920 in Dieppe. This was the civil status of his half-brother, who died on the Madrid front. His mother, widowed in 1918 of Belgian army lieutenant Arthur Pieters, had remarried a Dieppe docker.
