"Isaac was arrested on Saturday 22 February during the raid in the Jewish quarter. His wife Bloeme’s brother, Jacob, and her brother-in-law Mozes Leijden van Amstel were also arrested. The men, along with hundreds of others, were taken to camp Schoorl and deported from there to Buchenwald and Mauthausen. In that last camp Isaac came up
13 September 1941 killed. The officialʼ cause of death was noted in the camp register as „ulcus molle“, a sexually transmitted disease. Isaac’s brother-in-law Jacob Philips and Mozes Leijden van Amstel were murdered in the gas chamber of Slot Hartheim on 12 and 11 August respectively.
Bloeme and her four children arrived in Westerbork on 26 May 1943 after a large raid in Amsterdam. Her eldest son Nico from her first marriage was allowed to return to Amsterdam after just over two months because he had a non-Jewish father (Thielemanus Bodemeijer), which he did not know until then. Bloeme, her sons Nathan and Mozes and daughter Susanna were sent to Auschwitz on 24 August 1943, where they were murdered immediately upon arrival.
Of Isaac’s three brothers and six sisters, six were murdered in Nazi death camps."
