Marcel Arsène PETIT (field name: „Mercier“)
born May 19, 1888 in Civray-sur-Esves (Indre-et-Loire), deceased February 25, 1986 in Juan-les-Pins,
He was a French veterinarian, professor of anatomy at the National Veterinary School of Toulouse, director of this school from 1941 to 1945.
Like Maurice PERTCHUK (alias Martin Perkins) he was a member of the resistance group „Prunus“.
He was arrested on 13.04.1943, imprisoned in Fresnes, deported to Buchenwald where he arrived the same day as Maurice Pertchuk (29.01.1944)
Transferred to Dora/Mittelbau he distinguished himself by the help he provided to his fellow prisoners and by his participation in the resistance within the camp.
After his return to France, he was appointed Inspector General of Veterinary Schools from 1945 until his retirement in 1959. He was a major player in the construction of the new veterinary school in Toulouse. ( taken and translated from fr.wikipedia)
