Discussion Question

[ Tauchem ? ] MILECHMANN - #russian POB - #belgian POR
Asked by @routebleue

(I am confused…)

doubts first name:
different versions: Tauchem / Tanchem / Tauchel / Tauchen / Tanchen

doubts about „Inza“ (next to his first name)
I entered it in „place of birth“(not in first name). It seems to refer to his pob which is given as „Ilza“ (Russia) in the sources below.

doubts about place of residence:
a typo? should maybe read „Plantin-Moretus“?
In Antwerp I only found a street named „Plantin en Moretuslei“ (N184) and the „Plantin-Moretus-Museum“. It might also refer to a (former?) district near the City Park (mentioned here)

Tauchem (?) MILECHMANN, born in Ilza (Russia) on 15.01.1902.
(the date of birth given as 13.01.1932 here and here does not seem realistic - ?? )
He did not return.

Good morning @routebleue,

Here is the deportation list — he was deported with the transport of 11 February 1943 from Drancy to Auschwitz. His first name is listed there as Tauchel: https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/de/document/11182541

Inza was probably her first name.
The document states ‚née le‘, which means she was a woman. So you have her last name, her maiden name and her first name.

Regarding ‚Plantine Moretus‘, I totally agree. I’d also opt for Plantin en Moretuslei. This is the kind of spelling mistake I’d expect from a native French speaker writing down names of people or places as they have heard them pronounced by non-native speakers.

Thanks, Annabell!
And have a good weekend, both of you! :sun:
