Hesseline Cohen Laufer was born on March 7, 1922 in Deventer, the Netherlands. Her parents, Rudolf “Ru” Cohen & mother, Eva Laufer nee Koenigsberger were among the leaders of the Zionist Pioneering Training (Hachshara) in the Netherlands.
During the Aktion that took place on September 1943 in Amsterdam, the family was excused. Following the Aktion the family decided to seek hiding. Hesseline hid with her husband Robert Meyerson for three months in Deventer. When her sister Rachel - Rita was captured in Rotterdam along with Kurt Hannemann they decided to join them in Westerbork. Throughout their time in Westerbork 1943 - January 11, 1944 they were with the group of the hachshara. From there Hesseline was sent to Bergen Belsen with her husband, parents and younger brother. Her mother died on October 1944, her husband and father perished on February 1945. On May 1945 she was sent by train out of the camp with her brother. The train stopped at the village of Hillersleben where it was liberated by the American army. The soldiers brought them to Eindhoven. From there they returned to Deventer. On May 26, 1946, they immigrated to Mandatory Palestine/Eretz Israel.
