Nieuwmarkt 13 – Jakobs butcher shop
In 1940 Benjamin Jakobs (Vlagtwedde, 23 July 1896) had a butcher’s shop here. Benjamin was married to Betje Gudema (Borger, 6 June 1899) and they had three daughters: Frida, Sophie and Olga Ina. In 1942, the butcher shop was only allowed to be visited by Jews. Thanks to the help of the Zaanse resistance fighter Piet Bosboom, the Jacobs family managed to go into hiding and survive the war.
