Percy/Perci HAID / HAIDAS (1913-1977)
[quote] "…He studied piano and composition in Dortmund, and in 1930, when he had moved to Kaunas, he played the piano and accordion in the cafe Monika. He also played in the Ghetto orchestra and chamber ensembles, and in his free time he composed songs. His song „Mamele“ (The Old Mother) was composed in 1944, after the Children’s action, when about 1,300 children under 12 were killed.
In the same year he was deported to Dachau, where he created a symphonic piece „The Yellow Fantasy“, which was based on the melody of the song „Mamele“.
Percy Haid survived all the atrocities and died in Chicago, in 1977. "
