Vicente Luis FRANCO HIDALGO (misspelt Aidalgo), born in Montoro (Córdoba, Spain) on 23.10.1900
Mauthausen number 5510.
His parents: Melchor Franco Morales and Antonia Hidalgo Vacas,. They lived at 8 Concepción Street.
In 1941 his mother lived at 13 Plaza de la Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona.
He was an accountant and married.
Civil War and exile in France: He was a carabiniere in the Republican militia. At the end of the war he went into exile in France, where he was interned in the refugee camps of Saint Cyprien and Barcarés. There he enlisted in the 25th Company of Foreign Workers, part of the 4th Army, Lorraine region, of the French army. After operating in Suippes, Poudrerie de Rocamadour, La Moselle and Colmar, they were captured by the German army in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, between June 20 and 26, 1940.
Stalags (prisoner of war camps): He was initially interned in Frontstalag 140, in Belfort (France). From there he left on 10/21/1940 for Stalag XI-B, in Bad Fallingbostel (Germany).
Convoy: On 25/01/1941 a convoy left Fallingbostel station bound for Mauthausen carrying 1506 Spanish Republicans, of whom 1146 were killed. Vicente was accompanied by another 67 Cordobans, of whom only 13 survived the extermination camps.
