Frederik -Freddy- worked at the Van Campen company (hardware). In 1942, the Germans designated two employees for the Arbeitseinsatz because the management did not want to make the choice themselves: Wim Wolters and Freddy de Winter. Wim Wolters survived; Freddy de Winter did not. He was assigned as a Wachmann (security guard) to the Waldlager in Künsebeck. He died there on the day that American troops entered Halle (Westphalia); his personal card in the Nijmegen population register contains the note ‚stabbed to death‘, according to Stefan Kahlen by Russians, probably forced labourers.
