A year later she was able to find a new job directing an after-school care center of the Jewish Community and she was made the guardian of Susanne Manasse, a Jewish girl who had lost her mother and whose father had to flee from Germany after being held in a concentration camp. About ten years later, Pereles was introduced to Elisabeth Abegg who offered to hide her and Susanne, but before she could, Pereles was arrested while at work.
