She was born in Katovice on 30 December 1872 to Esther Goldfinger and Gehiel Engel. She marries the Austrian Ignatius Berger: they are both observant Jews and they have six children: Dora, Regina, Helene, Olly, Robert and Albert. In 1890 her husband founds the Berger factory in Vienna (with branches in Rotterdam, Paris and Milan), known internationally for the internationally for the invention of Nitrolinol (a gun oil) and shoe polish Guttalin. After the bombing of Milan in August 1943, Robert Berger and his family left Milan and moved to

Fanny Berger-Engel hielt sich 1938 als Kurgast im Meraner Sanatorium Waldpark der Familie Bermann auf und wurde am 22. August 1938 in Meran in der Zählung der in Italien lebenden „Juden“ durch die faschistischen Behörden erfasst.
Laut Meldeamt flüchtete sie am 27.10.1938 nach Mailand.
