Rubin Mingelgrün was born on 16 03 1901 in Brzesko, Poland. Jewish and originally from Poland, he is the son of Abraham and Hannah Mingelgrün. He lived in Gladbeck (Germany) with his wife, Fanny Schneider. They emigrated to Belgium. When Belgium was invaded by the Germans, they lived in Berchem (now part of Antwerp). He was an upholsterer by trade and a hairdresser. Rubin Mingelgrün was arrested by the SIPO-SD on 10/05/1940 in Antwerp for being a Jew and a foreigner. Subject to deportation to France, he was handed over to the authorities in France. On 28/04/1942 he was interned at the Camp des Milles (Bouches du Rhône), then assigned as a worker to GTE (Groupement de Travailleurs Etrangers) 805, located at Salles du Gardon (Gard). He was then transferred to the Drancy camp (Seine-Saint-Denis). He was deported by convoy 29, which left the Drancy camp on 07/09/1942 for Auschwitz-Birkenau (Poland). In early 1945, with the imminent arrival of the Red Army in Poland, he was evacuated from Auschwitz and arrived at the Gross-Rosen camp (then Germany, now Poland) on 10/02/1945. In the rush to escape from the Germans, he was again evacuated to the Buchenwald camp (Germany), where he arrived on 11/02/1945. He was liberated from Buchenwald in May 1945 by American troops.
