Jacob, Max and their father Philip Grootkerk were hidden with the help of Hanna van de Voort. In August 1944 she was betrayed. She was sent to Ravensbrück, but survived. She died in 1956.
Hanna van de Voort found hiding places for more than a hundred jewish children. Some of them were caught after the razzia in Tienray that followed her betrayal.
