Karl VICTORIAN
#german #communist #kpd
There are some discrepancies: On the card, his prename is written „Carl“, although he signed with „Karl“, on some documents his family name is spelled „Victoria“ or Viktorian". According to Memorial Archives > Database Victims - Karl Viktorian (11/18/1888 Hamburg) he died 10.09.1942 at CC Dachau. According to Holocaust Survivors and Victims Database -- Karl VIKTORIAN he arrived at CC Dachau on 06.11.1940. On ushmm and in Arolsen there are some documents about „Karl Victoria“ born either in Prague or in Tarnopol, either 1882 or 1888, with documents saying that he survived, e.g. here https://collections-server.arolsen-archives.org/G/wartime/02010101/0691/1221413/001.jpg
I´m a bit confused and don´t have the time to follow up right now, maybe someone else can? I can’t shake the feeling that he may have been saved by file manipulation, as has happened with many political prisoners. @velthove1 @carola.b @routebleue every help welcome. Kind regards W
Sorry Möwenzahn, I did not find out anything clarifying his fate.
This is all I can add:
His stations of internment (according to his Arolsen documents)
His first arrival in Dachau on 06.11.1940 (pris. number 21347)
Transferred to Buchenwald on 12.07.1941 (pris. number 8238)
Transferred back to Dachau again on 06.07.1942 (pris. number 31044) where he died on 10.09.1942
(Where and how did he spent the time between his protective custody order (March 1933) and his admittance to Dachau?)
one result of google search:
„Viktorian, Karl, geboren 1888, verfolgt in Buchenwald wegen Diebstahl eines Zigarrettenstummels (im Jahre 1941)“ (quote from source)
As you mentioned, Arolsen also has him as Karl VIKTORIAN

In his Dachau death certificate his occupation is given as „Maler/painter“ with POR Worpswede, but it seems there was no painter with this or a similar name in the artists’ colony, and I only found Von-Axen-Straße in Hamburg – POB „Kronshorst“, maybe part of Brunsbeck near Hamburg (map). „Steuermann“ is another occupation.
Rather confusing indeed. I do hope with you that he survived somehow.
(Maybe this prisoner just gave some wrong information on purpose…)
However, have a good evening!
Thank you so much, routebleue, that´s even more confusing but reinforces my initial feeling that Mr. Victorian probably was „playing tricks“ on his persuers.
Have a good evening, too!
